Eyebrows were raised this morning as a stepped on the scales before my 5th, and final, round of chemo for this cycle. The deitician's prescription was basically my dream menu, and Moniek's family have been treating me like a king. Somehow, I've managed to gain half a kilo!
I don't need any pharmaceutical support for my white blood cells; my liver and kidneys are functioning well, and Dr Karmen is re-jigging my schedule for next week. I've got 2 days of rest and light exercise ahead, with a bit less honey in my tea. I couldn't have hoped for better!
Whoo hoo dancing round the kitchen again!! I say again you are AMAZING! However having an angel on your side to care for, love you...and fatten you up certainly must help....here's to Moniek too! Xxxx
ReplyDeleteJust finished reading the blog Rick - and got to comment on the weight gain! When we were at college you could eat like a horse ( although horse wasn't on the menu with you being veggie) and used to constantly annoy me that you never gained an ounce whereas me ....... funnily enough I was just telling my kids a couple of weeks ago about our Pasta races while watching videos ( usually Jaws!!). Recipe: lasagne dish x2, 2 Jars Ragu, 500g cheddar & 1kg Sainburys cheapest pasta - cooked. Mix all together in 1 lasagne dish each - eat till one of us finishes first!! Usually took about an hour!!! Will insist on rematch when you next in UK brother!
ReplyDeleteGod bless
ReplyDeleteRick! read the blog in a one-er. Talk about come out swinging, all guns blazing,(insert hollywood metaphor here).Inspiring stuff. Certainly put my usual whingeing codswallop in the shade. bastard!
ReplyDeleteRemember - light and fluffy, and steer clear of the german metaphysics - they don't know shit!
You are doing so well!
ReplyDeletePaulo Coehlo (author) writes that words are tears that need to be shed and tears are words that need to be read. I'm so glad to read that you are able to shed some tears. Your blogs are excellent and I think that is because you are living and feeling what you write. I can't think of a way I can help you except to say that I am cheering you on as much as I can and pray you feel better soon. I can't imagine how exhausted you must feel both physically and mentally but your fighting spirit really is quite remarkable. I must say, perhaps because I am a woman, but weight gain would not be a postive spin for me.
I don't want to belittle your battle but I did want to say that sometimes hardships are put into our journey through life to change us a little bit, and eventually, for the better. Take a look out the window at the ocean because I'm pretty sure your ship is due in any time soon.
Thinking of you and Moniek

Des. We had a Greek exchange student stay with us to improve English. You were there and all she learned was 'whey man'. Hugh.
ReplyDeleteI sooo got the Deacon bit - you're a wrong 'un Rick Magill!
ReplyDeleteYou're doing exceptionally well, keep it up (can I say that to a bloke who just had one of his knackers chopped off?) Anyhoo, stay positive and keep getting well!
Also had some Greek guy on exchange recently - Mr Papandraou? Bummer that he took my financial advice!
ReplyDeleteBrilliant news again...... Yeah, yeah it's great that you're still improving, but I'm more happy that you are FINALLY putting on weight. Do you know how unfair it feels to a sister watching you shovel away 3 helpings of dahl bhat without any consequences (apart from the usual wind issues of course)?
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your days off, rest easy and eat well!

Hey Rick,
ReplyDeleteJust got back from a trip away and read through your blog in one go.
What a shock! You are doing so well and the blog is awesome - thanks so much for keeping us all up to date. Sending buckets of love and hugs from ‘down under’ to you, Moniek and Ellie.
Song references are great, made me think of when you jumped up on stage at Busy Bee and sang ‘One’ when I said it was one of my faves! :-)
Enjoy your rest days and keep shining on you crazy diamond!
Love Rowena and Ian xx

Hi Rick, Just heard your news from Matt and have read your blog.. Firstly I am sorry you are having to face this battle but you WILL win. I had cervical cancer at 26 and am still here to create mischief! In true Rick style your blog is great- keep it up. I have a friend who is doing a lot of work to promote testicular nastiest http://uk.movember.com/mospace/1373478/ her name is Ann-Marie and I told her about your blog. I am a form tutor to Year 12 and 13 and shared your story with them this morning, played them Time by Pink Floyd and gave them all a copy of the words and had a deep chat about life. They all say hello! So hopefully you will have touched their life in some way to make it fuller. All the best, keep smiling, hugs to you x Sam (Fruin, from Brownes days!) ps any more song/life enriching stuff will be great for my lesson plans!!! :-)
ReplyDeleteJust a note to let you know that the Lakeside folks are all thinking of you and following your blog. Oviraptor dedicated a song to you tonight - 'I Will Survive', no less, and wished you a speedy return home.
ReplyDeleteAlso, it seems that all the guys in Lakeside are checking their bollocks now. A good step forward on the public health front, methinks.
Hey Rick, we're so glad to hear that everything is looking up for you - it's such fantastic news :-) We're all looking forward to catching up with you when you get back to blighty, you are going to have a heck of a trip to see everyone, its wonderful to see all the love on everyones messages to you and Moniek - biggest hugs to you, Nat and Josh xxx
ReplyDeleteAt the moment Rick is very tired and punchy. But the news is good. Blood count is down again. I'm sure normal service will be resumed when he is up to it.
ReplyDeleteThe blog gets better & better. The (in)famous Des Hall makes an appearance, not to mention Mr Byfield. A delight to hear from you all.
ReplyDeleteRick topping in at a Light Heavyweight class with an aspiration to go to Cruiserweight. Bring on the pasta Ragu. Now can't think why that isn't in the latest Jamie's Britain.
Rick, my shiny new chainsaw arrived on Friday, so if you're having trouble with the remaining berry!!!!
PS Any news from Turt? Did he make it back? Did he lock the door to the apartment this time?
Hey Rick....funny, inspiring, strong; I run out of words for you but I know you will WIN. Pink Floyd - love it. Reference to the Irish Nottingham - I still have horrible flashbacks! X
ReplyDeleteDon't forget the delights of Beanfeast on the menu too...do they still make that disgusting stuff?? Ian with a chainsaw...now there's a worry...don't be weilding that thing with your kilt on or you'll be joining the bionic berry club too!
ReplyDeleteRick another step in the right direction...blood count down...you STAR! Rest well...Club Duvet is the place to be!!
Have just sat listening to Pink Floyd for 2hrs, so now educating Dad, again, on other music, everything from folk to classical. Rick I did turn up the music and open the window, the sheep ran away, and Dad fell asleep.
